RE: Who is a four season TC'er?

We're waiting for the snow to fly also. Ski Patrol duty at Gold Lake Sno-Park and Crater Lake is our winter destinations. We will also go to the Oregon coast this winter too. Happy Holidays, KEN

RE: Outfitter to the Outback...of Utah, many pictures

WOW NICE Pics. Are there many of the ruins that people have not been to? Are they throughout a certain area? Grand Canyon, Zion and Brice areas are on the list of places to see. Thanks, KEN

RE: Fuel prices dropping, camping increasing?

I still don't understand why Diesel is about a $1.00 more then gas. I had the truck and camper parked all summer and was riding the Harley. Winter is starting and the camper is out and about, doing the camping thing.

RE: Monaco lays off an additional 20% of it's workforce???

Here is the info from the local newspaper. COBURG — Monaco Coach Corp. laid off approximately 100 employees Friday, a majority of them at its Coburg facility but a few at its plant in Indiana, company spokesman Craig Wanichek said Saturday. “It was all administrative and indirect staff in our plants,” said Wanichek, who described the decision as “very difficult.” “There was very little effect to any production workers,” he said. “In addition to the layoffs, there were salary cuts by salaried employees, including senior management taking larger cuts.” Monaco, like other recreational vehicle makers, has been hit hard by the worst slump the industry has seen in decades, with recent high fuel prices and shrinking credit quashing demand. In October, Monaco reported third-quarter losses of $71.8 million. On Friday, company stock closed at 89 cents; in October 2007, it was trading at $14.89 per share. But Wanichek linked the latest layoffs to what’s happening in the broader economy, not the RV industry. He said he has confidence in Monaco’s “long-term viability” and optimism about the industry in general. “Hopefully, with this reduction it will help us preserve our liquidity, preserve our financial footing and get us through this down cycle as we move into the next cycle,” he said. “Millions of Americans are enjoying RVing today, and we expect that will continue and rebound.” Earlier this month, Monaco secured a $129.3 million loan package that includes a three-year, $80 million revolving loan fund and a 3½-year, $39.3 million secured term loan. The new loans are to be used to pay off and retire the company’s existing credit arrangements. In August, the company temporarily cut 225 production workers at the Coburg facility, some of whom have been called back, Wanichek said, and permanently cut 20 administrative positions. During the past seven months, Monaco has cut some 1,700 jobs in Indiana and 300 in Oregon. Monaco now employs about 1,800 people in Coburg, Wanichek said, and several hundred additional employees in Indiana, Florida and elsewhere in Oregon.

RE: Sea Perch RV park

I liked the old Sea Perch RV Park. The new park is TOO high of a price. It has also lost all of it's charm.

RE: Thinking of a Coastal Drive (Oregon)

Agreed. Anywhere but Mo's. Their chowder tastes like wallpaper paste. And that's being nice.

RE: Thinking of a Coastal Drive (Oregon)

A better place for Chowder in Newport is The Chowder Bowl @ Historic Nye Beach. All the Lighthouses are interesting. Many of the coastal towns have museums that are great to take a break at and learn something at the same time.

RE: Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!

Gasoline at the head of the lakes is $2.09 today. Down $.10 a gallon. Diesel is about a buck more a gallon. Whoopeee! Today the price is $1.99. Hope it stays low through next summer! Next March I get to burn the $4.00+ per gallon gasoline I put in September. If you let that $4.00 gasoline sit till march without putting any additives (STA-Bil) in it, your vehicle will not start and the gas will go bad.

RE: Any info on Maytag front load washer

Maytag is in now part of history. Whirlpool bought Maytag about 9 months ago. The Maytag is now made by WP. I fix coin washers and dryers (19 years) for a nationwide company. Maytag is the main brand that we use. The Neptune washer has it's problems, but with a good technician and a little care the machine could last 10 to 20 years. I have seen machines with close to 10,000 uses. I totally agree with Dick B. Leave the door open after each use. Another thing that you want to do; is empty your pocket. If I was buying a front load washer today, I would buy WP, Maytag or LG. I would also get a maintenance agreement, because the price of control boards is over $200.00. Most major problems happen in the first year or two.

RE: narcos wave 3 heater bracket

Here is a few pics of my mounting of a wave 3 in my camper. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q205/orbiker/Camper%20stuff/wave3instalition.jpg http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q205/orbiker/Camper%20stuff/CIMG0366.jpg I cut the main propane line going to the stove/oven and installed a T with a little extra line and a shut-off valve. I used rubber flex line to the wave 3. I mounted the wave to a small board with hinges on one side and a clasp/hook on the other.

RE: Fuel Issues & Prices - Post 'Em Here!

SO Why are the prices across the US so different? There is over a $1.00 difference from the low to the high gas prices. Here in Oregon the price can vary $.50 from one station to another. And Diesel is almost a $1.00 more then gas. State and Fed. tax in Oregon is $.24

RE: Living in Cold Winter Months

I have found that if you have a backup for all the winter problems, that is a good idea. Extra heaters if one should die. The large 330lb propane tank would be a good idea, keeping your tanks full for your backup. Tip your rig so that any melting (and there will be melting) goes where it won't create a problem. My sisters live up in Fairbanks. One year their sewer pipes froze, 5 ft under ground. It was not pleasant. Some remote thermometers in your remote heated places to check on them would be a way of checking to make sure everything is working correctly. The reason your door latch is freezing is; that is the place that the condensation has found it can escape. Let it escape some where else. When we winter camp we have one low window cracked and the bathroom roof vent cracked. At your low temps. the condensation will probably be freezing on the outside louver of the roof vent cover. CONDENSATION IS YOUR ENEMY Please keep us informed of you progress and dilemmas that arise.

RE: Mt St Helen's or Baker in January???

The road up to Mt Baker is a curvy, narrow, slippery sob. I don't think I would even take my PUcamper up there, unless the roads were looking good. Mt Baker gets enough fresh powder in one day to loose a young child.

RE: Bigfoot or Eagle Cap

I have seen the inside of a few Big Foot campers. They are nice inside. I have heard that they are very well insulated too. I purchased my Citation 2003 in 2005. It was NEW with a 2 year warranty. We got a killer deal of 17,000.00. Basically 50% off of the 34,000 price. Big Foots have a good resale value, but not too many people are buying anything of any large expense. You might get it for less then the $23,000.

RE: Strange places for cell Phone reception

At Crater Lake there are a few places that ATT will work. Here at Discovery Point is a place I will use my phone sometimes. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q205/orbiker/Crater%20and%20Diamond%201-07/CIMG0566.jpg Here in the "Old West" ATT worked too. http://i137.photobucket.com/albums/q205/orbiker/Idaho%20Trip%206-08/Idahotrip6-15-08106.jpg

RE: Oregon Hi 42 - Roseburg to Bandon/Coos Bay, OR

Hwy 42 is the best hwy to the Oregon coast. There are many passing lanes. If there is snow on 42, then there is more snow in Grants Pass. It does not snow on 42 very often.

RE: Between full use and winterization - how to handle it

I use the camper more in the winter then the summer. I live in the Willamette Valley. Most of the time the winter temp. is around 40 F. There are some freezing spells where the temp. will be below freezing for days. I put a small cube heater in the basement set on 750W and set the temp. to 40-45 F. This has worked very well for 3 winters so far. It has worked down to -12 F for 3 days. I keep the water tank full too. I figure; the warm mass of water helps keep the space warmer/longer. I do not winterize.

RE: Staying a few nights where it's cold

What do you do for work? Would the places you are going to work at let you plug in somewhere? When purchasing an RV for winter use, you will need to look for insulated tanks, pipes, underbelly, etc. Once you figure out what you want to buy, you might want to read up about catalytic heaters (like the Wave 3).
